Don't be dumb enough to walk anywhere.
Las Vegas is built to look walkable and is not. Four ways to get from your hotel to the convention center, and for most of you it comes down to the last two. They are not the same thing and the difference costs real money.
The one that will save you the most money
Las Vegas taxi fares cannot surge. They are set by the Nevada Taxicab Authority, and the only demand surcharges that legally exist are for EDC, the F1 weekend and New Year's Eve. CES is not one of them. No ordinary convention is. On the busiest Monday morning of your show, the cab charges what it charges on a dead Tuesday.
Meanwhile your Uber is surging, and it is picking you up on a parking garage level that is a ten to fifteen minute walk from the casino floor. The taxi is at the front door.
The four ways
Each explained once, because a route table from 88 hotels to everywhere you might go is a matrix nobody reads.
Curb used to hail cabs here. It doesn't anymore.
If you remember requesting a ride in Las Vegas with Curb, you are not misremembering. Curb launched taxi hailing here in 2015 with Frias, Yellow Checker, Western and Nellis. It is gone. Curb's own city list now shows Las Vegas under Pair & Pay only, meaning you flag a cab the normal way and use the app to pay. Its Las Vegas landing page redirects to the homepage, which is what a retired market looks like. Reno still has the full version. We could not pin down when Las Vegas lost it.
What actually summons a regulated cab today: zTrip has a working app covering Henderson Taxi and Whittlesea Blue Cab. Kabit dispatches roughly 2,400 cabs across Desert Cab, Yellow Checker, Virgin Valley and A Cab, by phone and web only, with no app in either store.
Why we bother telling you this. Half the Las Vegas advice online was true once. A site that only prints what is true today leaves you wondering why your own memory disagrees with it. When something we used to be able to do stops working, we would rather say so than quietly drop it.
Taxi or rideshare, honestly
Nobody has published a rigorous head to head for Las Vegas, so this is reasoned from the published rates and the physical layout rather than from a study.
